ProQuest Learning - Literature
ProQuest Learning - Literature
Grades: 6+ | Subject(s): All | Overall rating: 10
ProQuest Learning-Literature is a very neat resource for students offered as part of the Galileo resources. The site is colorful and welcoming, which is helpful to maintain student interest. When you enter the site, one of the most noticeable features is the ability to select an author or a poet by picture to find out more information about the writer or his/her works. The picture listing online offers a very diverse group of writers from Anne Frank to Edgar Allen Poe, from Mark Twain to J.K. Rowling.
In addition to finding valuable information about authors, students can also search for their works, criticisms and reviews on their works, and reference materials and multimedia items for their works. I searched for "Heart of Darkness" because our Literature classes are studying this piece. I found 66 results including reviews, articles about the author, comparisons of the novel, and even an audio recording of the book's opening passage.
Students can also search this resource for study pages, notes, and essays on literature topics. Or, they could also use the materials on the ProQuest Learning Reference shelf including a dictionary, a thesaurus, and a citation guide. Limited educator resources are also provided. I assigned a 10 rating for this resource. Although it may not be quite as extensive as other literature sources, I felt the layout and writing style appealed to younger students.
