The Old Farmer's Almanac

Just looking at the cover of this book brings an overwhelming sense of nostalgia for my childhood days spent following my farmer grandfather around his farm. He used to rely heavily on the planting and harvesting information found within this almanac.
For the purposes of this project, I visited the online home for the almanac. In addition to the printed hard or soft cover book, users can purchase and download an electronic copy of the 2015 almanac. But, even without spending any money, the website can provide a lot of valuable resources. Site visitors can look up information about the weather, the moon and astronomy, gardening, cooking and recipes, and home and health. Users can view the calendar, a question of the day, a puzzle of the day, advice of the day, a word of the day, and what happened today in history. The site also includes a store where users can shop for the almanac, an almanac gardening calendar, weather calendar, or cookbook. The store also provides a host of products to help readers including everything from cutting boards and cookware to bird feeders, apparel, and jewelry.
To find out how the site would search, I searched for my birthday, February 7th. I learned a lot of interesting facts about my birthday such as the weather on my birthday, interesting astronomical readings for my birthday, famous people who share my birthday, events that happened on my birthday throughout history, and information about my zodiac sign. Additionally, users can search any date in history (beginning with 1960) and find out the weather by zipcode on that particular day.
I've assigned a rating of 10 for this source for two reasons. First, it provides free, helpful information on anything from watching a video to improve your gardening skills to a delicious recipe for Snickerdoodles. Second, it provides so much information without annoying visitors with a barrage of advertisements like most free informational sites. While I am still unconvinced our library should purchase a copy of the book every year for our collection, I do think guiding users to the site would be beneficial.
