I decided to begin my search by entering the search term "obesity" in the search bar located at the top of the page. I was shocked to find over 2,000 hits for resources related to obesity. One helpful feature is the ability to filter search results by a number of items. For my search on obesity, I could filter my search by viewing only health topics, external health links, drugs and supplements, medical encyclopedia, videos and tutorials, news, the Medline Plus magazine, other resources, or by other languages. Our school has a growing ESL (English as a Second Language) student population, so I believe the ability to filter by language is very helpful. For my students, I like how the site incorporates videos and tutorials in addition to the articles on given topics. After clicking on the first hit in my search on obesity, I was presented with numerous tools, videos, and articles. The information was written on a higher level and failed to include differentiation options for students. However, the site did include interesting videos and other tools, including a BMI calculator in both English and in Spanish. I decided to rate this encyclopedia as an 8. It had an immense amount of valuable information presented in numerous formats; however, I did not find as many ways to differentiate this resource as found in others nor were the tools or videos ideal for teenagers.
