Mahatma Gandhi: A Selected Bibliography
Mahatma Gandhi: A Selected Bibliography
Grades: 9+| Subject(s): Gandhi | Overall rating: 9
One person I love to study is Mahatma Gandhi. Resources abound on his writings, teachings, and life. Because of the over-abundance of information available, it can be difficult to narrow down good quality resources. Mahatma Gandhi: A Selected Bibliography is a great resource to guide student research on Gandhi. I found access to this book through the ProQuest Ebrary resources in Galileo.
The book begins with an introduction describing the focus and scope of the bibliographical resources provided within. The author also included a summary biography of Gandhi and a chronology of Gandhi’s life. The book then divides suggested resources into the following twelve categories: manuscript and archival sources, Gandhi’s own writings, general biographies, Gandhi’s early years and the South African Campaigns (1869-1914), Gandhi’s Indian Campaigns (1915-1929), Gandhi’s role in the struggle for Indian independence (1930-1939), the Second World War and the Quit India Movement (1939-1945), Independence, Partition and Gandhi’s final campaigns (1945-1948), Gandhi’s social, political, and ethical thought and practice, Gandhi’s place in history, the Gandhian Movement after Gandhi, and other bibliographies and general reference works. The author also provides a list of periodicals referenced, a glossary of Indian terms, and an author and subject index.
While all bibliographical reference books are somewhat dry, I would have assumed the author might include at least a couple of pictures of Gandhi in the books introduction or biography sections. However, no pictures were included at all. But, I find the information contained within the book to be very helpful and thoughtfully organized. So for these reasons, I have assigned a value of 9 for this resource.
